Blog 43 - Sex Sells, but at what cost?


Did you see Kim Kardashian’s Super Bowl ad? I didn’t even know what the commercial was about until the following day. The ad was so racy. Don’t get me wrong, it was really nice to watch (believe me if you missed it, you should probably youtube it.) It seemed like the ad was more about showing off her best assets to the world than selling the product, which, if you are wondering, was the new line of Skechers sneakers.
Watching the ad really raised a lot of questions in my head later on (at that moment, my brain was mush). It made me consider if the amount of sexually related material on television nowadays might be a tad too much. We don’t have to look to far to realize that producers are continuously trying to make us watch their movies or shows by integrating a sexual element, even if it isn’t needed.

  1. I remember seeing that ad and talking with my roommates about what we think its about. We still had no idea afterwards.
