It’s has been quite a while since I thought about blogging. To say that I have fallen of the bandwagon is an understatement. I always thought the fact that we had to blog about a particular thing did me in, but it seems the reverse is the case. Now that I have been given free rein to blog about anything, I’m quite lost. There are so many ideas zipping around in my head.
Anyways, on to the task at hand. Since I didn’t blog about my commonplace paper yesterday, I will do that today. Everyone heard my idea in class yesterday. I will be discussing the evolution of our society today into one that is more sex- oriented in every way. From our tv shows to movies and even commercials, it is obvious that sex ‘sells’
There are some benefits as a result of this change. People are more comfortable talking about their sexual problems, frustrations, and even fantasies. Few people are ashamed to address sexual issues. This has helped to clear up a lot of misconceptions.
However, we fail to realize that it has consequences. Young underprivileged women are trafficked and forced into prostitution. Unsuspecting people are taken advantage of as a result of the ‘voyeur’ camera practice.
Even our celebrities suffer for it. They are constantly asked to push the boundaries between entertainment and pornography. Recently, Kim Kardashian was in the spotlight after she showed up nude in a magazine. However, she complained that she was told that she would be covered up. As the world could see, that did not happen. I doubt that half the people who bought that edition of the magazine bought for any other reason.
The company made their profit, but they did so at the cost of her dignity. We must then ask ourselves, are we moving too fast? What kind of future are we leaving to the unborn generations? Sex sells big time nowadays, but at what cost?
I love your idea! I think it is definitely something that needs to be addressed.
