I don’t really have a best friend: I just have very good friends that I can tell almost anything. The last time I had a best friend was elementary school. His name was Onyeka and we were in the same class from kindergarten to the 5th grade, so it was sort of natural for us to become very good friends. We were always together, whether it was pranking another classmate or getting punished for making fun of the teacher (If you haven’t guessed by now, I was no angel in elementary school. But then again, how many of us were?).
We would also hang out outside school. I can’t remember how many times I went to his house, or he came to mine. The entertainment of choice was whatever interesting video game at that point in time. During our many visits, we found out that our fathers went to the same college and lived in the same dorm area. This made even better friends: our fathers were, so wouldn’t we be?
However, this close friendship could not last forever. We went off to different high schools, and after six years of not seeing each other, we weren’t close anymore. About two years ago, we met up, just to catch up on how we were doing and reminisce about the old days. Too much had changed since the days when we would meet up and play video games. We had both gotten a lot more mature, and less we had less in common. We still keep in touch though: we are friends on facebook, and we chat each other up once in a while. We are regular friends now, and not too good ones at that.
I can totally relate to not having one specific best friend. I think it's better that way.
ReplyDeleteIt's normal that friends do not stay close when they are apart, but it's a bit sad to think of that.
