FREE! – Nowadays, everyone is offering free stuff. What’s annoying about all these “free” offers is that they are rarely ever free. I’m online most of time, and sometimes I see pop-ups, offering the world. One I saw offered a free gift card - if the recipient was ready to register for a trial online. Another offered a thousand dollars – if they were ready to download a program that could potentially harm them.
I believe that every computer user should try and stay away from these deals. The risk involved is just too much. Is a free offer of five hundred dollars really worth it if the software you download destroys your system? Then you’ll have to spend even more money to try and repair your system. If it is too bad, then you might have to even get a whole new system.
Even worse is that some of the free software can steal your personal information. Important information like your date of birth, permanent address, or your social security number can be compromised. Anyone who gets a hold of this information can steal your identity. Worse, they may be able to access your credit card information and then they can post charges to your account.
It is clear that the cons far outweigh the pros of accepting these free deals. It is sad to see how the word “free” is used to hide terrible things. There was a time when free meant exactly what it should. But nowadays, things are rarely what they seem.
This is so true, there is always a catch.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, it's crazy how many times I've been the millionth visitor to the same website.
ReplyDeleteAs long as "free" turns heads as well as it does, I'm sure it will be at the heart of many scams.
ReplyDeleteI know some online chatting programs will steal you pravite information. That's horrible.
